Prof. F. Liu (1975) has been named professor by special appointment in the Amsterdam-China Logic Chair at the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Science (FNWI). This is a new chair established by the Amsterdam University Fund Foundation.

Fenrong Liu conducts research in the area of logic for rational agency  and has developed various models to demonstrate how new information can dynamically change individuals' and other agents' preferences. Her current work focuses on the logical analysis of information flows and decision-making in social settings, both by individual agents and in groups. In addition, she is exploring the history of ancient logic in China, with a special interest in patterns of argumentation. 

Liu has been a member of the Philosophy Department at Tsinghua University since 2007, since 2011 as professor of Logic. Prior to this she was a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In 2013 Liu was engaged as a guest lecturer by the UvA's Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC), where the Amsterdam-China Logic Chair is based. Since 2014, Liu has been co-director of the Joint Research Center for Logic of Tsinghua University (Beijing) and the UvA. In this capacity, and as the newly appointed chair, she will work to promote broader collaboration in both research and education.  In 2012 Liu was honoured with a New Century Talents Award from the Chinese Education Ministry.
