Dr D. Eygendaal (1969) has been appointed professor by special appointment of Orthopaedics, specialising in the elbow, at the University of Amsterdam’s Faculty of Medicine (AMC-UvA), effective 1 March 2016. The chair was established on behalf of Stichting Amphia.

Denise Eygendaal is an orthopaedic surgeon specialised in disorders of the arms, and in particular elbow disorders such as elbow joint degeneration, post-traumatic deformities and sports-related disorders. Her work spans both the prevention and occurrence of injuries, which she carries out in close collaboration with physical therapists, sports doctors and other treatment specialists. Over the next few years she will be supervising doctors in training with a research focus on sports-related elbow disorders.

Eygendaal has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Amphia hospital in Breda since 2006 and is a championship sports consultant to several sports associations. She has also developed maximum training intensity guidelines for young athletes in collaboration with the tennis and gymnastics association. Eygendaal teaches elbow orthopaedics in and outside the Netherlands, and is among the initiators of an elbow education platform (Elleboogkliniek.nl) set up to improve the treatment of elbow conditions in the Netherlands. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow, and in 2014 was voted Top Doctor in a national election among medical specialists.
