Eva Pajkrt’s research is focused on ultrasound interventions in the prediction and prevention of obstetric complications, placental pathology and fetal anomalies. In her capacity as principal investigator at the Academic Medical Center, she heads a research line that investigates the efficacy of cervical pessaries and progesterone in the prevention of preterm birth. This research is being conducted within the Dutch Obstetric Consortium 2.0 and is part of the PROMPT initiative (PROspective Meta-analysis for Pessary Trials), an international collaboration embedded within the Global Obstetrics Network (GONet) that aims to perform a prospective individual patient data meta-analysis of pessary trials around the world. Another important research line is the continuous evaluation of prenatal screening strategies for fetal chromosomal and structural anomalies in both the first and second trimester of pregnancy.

Pajkrt works as a fetal and maternal medicine specialist in the Obstetric Department and is head of the AMC’s Fetal Medicine Unit. As newly appointed professor, Pajkrt will actively combine daily patient care with research. Her goal is to improve fetal, maternal and neonatal outcome through better risk stratification in obstetric prenatal care. She will also be actively involved in education within the field of prenatal screening and obstetric and fetal ultrasound.

Pajkrt has published widely in scientific journals. She is a member of various national and international organisations and networks in the area of prenatal screening and prevention of preterm birth. In 2011 she was appointed chair of the Working Party for Fetal Ultrasound of the Dutch College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (NVOG). She has also been the director of the Stichting Prenatal Screening Amsterdam en Omstreken’ (SPSAO) since 2010. This Foundation is responsible for the quality control of prenatal screening in the North-West of the Netherlands. In 2016 she was appointed chair of the ‘Review commission late pregnancy termination and termination of life of new borns’ by the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport and the Minister of Security and Justice.
