Guido van Wingen uses neuroimaging to conduct research on the mechanisms that underlie psychiatric disorders, especially depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders. He studies how biological and psychological factors, which are related to psychiatric vulnerability, influence the brain. Moreover, he investigates how successful treatment results can be predicted and how these normalise brain function.

Van Wingen teaches to students of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programme in Medicine and within the programmes in Psychology and Neurosciences. He also teaches in the field of Neuroimaging and Machine Learning in the Amsterdam region and within the framework of Amsterdam Neuroscience and in collaboration with the Spinoza Centre for Neuroimaging.

As professor, Van Wingen will focus on fundamental research into the efficacy of biological and psychological interventions and on the development of clinical applications.

About Guido van Wingen

Van Wingen has been affiliated with the Amsterdam University Medical Center as psychologist and neuroscientist since 2011. In addition, he is group leader at the Spinoza Center for Neuroimaging. Prior to this, he held a research fellowship at Radboud UMC’s Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour. Van Wingen is the recipient of various grants, including a Veni and Vidi grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO).
