Art objects in their environment
Each work of art provides a special interpretation of an aspect of reality.
This interpretation, both in an historical and topical sense, forms a core
aspect of both research and education at Art History. Throughout the years Art
History has gained a solid research reputation in the fields of fine arts and
Medieval architecture, arts, culture and art trade during the Golden Age,
collection and museum history in a European context, as well as the fine arts
and (urban) architecture of the 20th and 21st century.
Recent years have also seen an increasing interest in the material aspects of producing, preserving and interpreting art.
A large amount of local and international PhDs contribute to a vibrant research culture.
