dr. M.K. (Marga) van Mechelen

Marga van Mechelen (1953) studeerde kunstgeschiedenis en taalfilosofie aan de universiteiten van Nijmegen en Groningen. Tijdens haar studie doceerde zij korte tijd methodologie enkunstfilosofie aan de Katholieke Universiteit van Nijmegen . Van 1978 tot 1980 was zij werkzaam aan de lerarenopleiding in Utrecht waarna zij aangesteld werd op haar huidige werkplek aan de Universiteit vanAmsterdam met als speciale onderzoeksopdracht de kunsttheoretische ontwikkelingen vanaf de jaren 70. Zij specialiseerde zich al vroeg op het terrein van de conceptuele, performance en installatiekunst. Daarnaast deed zijn historiografisch en semiotisch onderzoek. Van haar verschenen meerdere publicaties over theoretische concepten van de franse psychosemioticus Julia Kristeva. Deze onderzoeken resulteerden in 1993 in haar proefschrift Vorm en Betekening. Kunstgeschiedenis.Semiotiek, Semanalyse. In 2006 verscheen een omvangrijke monografie over de legendarische geschiedenis van Stichting De Appel ( De Appel . Performances, Installations, Video, Projects, 1975-1983 ) en in 2011 Echt Peeters. Realist - Avant-gardist . Zij is lid van ASCA (Amsterdam School of Cultural Analysis),  de Executive Committee of the International Association for Semiotic Studies bestuurslid van AIC Nederland en Open Monumentendag Arnhem.
