The research undertaken at the UvA in the field of law has a strong international orientation, carrying both a global and a European focus.

Research institute

Amsterdam Research Institute for Legal Studies

The research of the Faculty of Law is organized within the Amsterdam Research Institute for Legal Studies (ARILS). The research institute encompasses various research groups and centres, each with their own specialisations, including international and European law, contract law, tax law, and information law.

Research priority areas

The University of Amsterdam is a first-class research university. To sustain and build on this position, the UvA has designated 15 fields in which it wishes to actively foster further development. These 'research priority areas' represent the very best the UvA has to offer in terms of research. They are also areas in which the UvA is a worldwide leader.
