Catching Fire: Assessing Cities, Conflicts, and Diffusion in Québec, Canada

Organised by IMES and the AISSR Programme Group Political Sociology

31Oct2014 12:00 - 15:00

Lecture

In this presentation, we discuss urban conflicts that took place in Quebec and Montreal cities for two decades. We show that the modeling of conflict activity offers new paths for research: systematic comparative analysis and, above all, the analysis of networking conflicts. By shedding light on conflict networks (and their spread over time and space), we hope to show how conflicts become a driving force in constituting the territories and societies they take place in.

Professor Catherine Trudelle is a Canada research chair in socio-territorial conflict and local governance at the University of Québec in Montreal. She has been studying conflict activity and territorial governance for more than ten years now.

Mathieu Pelletier is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Quebec in Montreal. He is a specialist of spatial analysis, research methods and spatiotemporal modeling of conflict activity.

Lunch and refreshments will be served. Please register with Helena Uzelac (H.Uzelac@uva.nl); there are only 14 seats available on a first come, first served basis.
