Culturalization of Citizenship: On Racism, Populism and Authenticity
Co-sponsored by NWO, OxfamNovib, Forum and AISSR
How does the culturalization of Dutch citizenship manifest itself, both at the national and local level? How do native-born Dutch and migrants experience this culturalization? And how different is the Dutch case from Britain and France? These and more questions are being addessed during this 3-days conference.
The conference closes the NWO funded research project Citizenship, National Canons, and the Issue of Cultural Diversity, an empirical analysis of the ‘culturalization' of citizenship in the Netherlands. The conference will mainly deal with three themes that are regarded crucial in the research results: racism, populism and authenticity.
The first day of the conference reaches out to a broader audience. On the second and third day, the character of the debates will be of an academic nature.
