Launch of the European Network for the Social Studies of Forensics

Symposium

With this event we will celebrate the launch of the European Network for the Social Studies of Forensics (EUnetSSF).

The aim of the network is to: 

  1. Bring together scholars in the social sciences whose expertise is in forensics 
  2. Combine and strengthen the scholarly work on forensics in Europe 
  3. Strengthen and stimulate interdisciplinary research on the future of forensics and the governance in forensics technologies in Europe

Four prominent guest speakers will give a public address on current developments in the field of forensics, processes of identification and governance of forensic data.

Each talk will last approximately 30 min, followed by a discussion. 

 Speakers 

  • Prof. Manfred Kayser: Forensic DNA Phenotyping: appearance and ancestry information for investigative intelligence
  • Prof. Kerstin Kreutz: Limits and possibilities of morphological identification in forensics
  • Dr  C.P. (Kees) van der Beek: The perceived fears for false positive Prüm DNA matches
  • Prof. Robin Williams: Forensic Science and the Contemporary Investigation Order: Issues, Topics, Studies
