The Amsterdam Centre for Contemporary European StudieS (ACCESS EUROPE), an initiative of the VU University Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam (UvA) will kick off on Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 January with the inaugural event 'Europe in Crisis – Resilient Europe'.

Programme 22 January

Official opening with Minister Bussemaker (OCW), Dymph van den Boom (Rector Magnificus UvA) and Jaap Winter (Chair VU), Andrée van Es (Advisory Board ACCESS EUROPE).

  • Keynote lecture by Loukas Tsoukalis, professor of European Integration at the University of Athens: ‘What Kind of Europe After the Crisis?
  • Discussion by Frank Vandenbroucke, professor by Special Appointment in the Den Uyl chair at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), Brigid Laffan, director and professor at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute in Florence

Doors open at 14.30, programme from 15.00 to 17.30. Drinks afterwards

Programme 23 January

ACCESS EUROPE Scholars present their views on current European topics and discuss these with the audience.

Doors open at 12:00 (including lunch). Programme from 13:00 to 17:00. Drinks afterwards.
