This short intenstive course is aimed at PhD Candidates. With guest speakers Susana Narotzky, Thomas Hylland Eriksen, Niko Besnier and Sébastien Chauvin.
This SIC aims to:
- Re-appraise classical sociological and anthropological theories about subsistence, economy, and labor.
- Explore the relevance and possible application of these classical approaches in an era of rapid transformations.
- Examine the articulation of various forms of crisis and their implications for people’s everyday lives.
- Investigate ways to embed the acquired and discussed knowledge in our own research projects.
We offer participants the opportunity to present their work/research/article during our Monday or Tuesday sessions with Susana Narotzky and Thomas Hylland Eriksen: a great opportunity for you to discuss your ideas and receive feedback. Presentations will be 20-30 minutes each as to have enough time for discussion afterwards.
Please find the provisional program attached (exact program and reading list will be announced later). If you are interested in participating, let us know as soon as possible by sending an email to anneke.beerkens@uva.nl.
