The European Union in the World: a research dialogue
Jean Monnet 'Practitioner Engagement Series’/ACCESS EUROPE event
Does the EU exercise its normative power ‘successfully’? Is the EU a successful and powerful negotiator on the international scene? As an emergent actor on the international scene, how does the EU come to terms with concepts like sovereignty, power and interests?
Ten years after the EU’s biggest enlargement, eleven years after publication of the EU’s Security Strategy, and twelve years after the EU’s member states signed the Kyoto Protocol, several Amsterdam-based scholars dealing with EU external relations from different disciplinary backgrounds will participate in a debate on the challenges for the European Union as an international actor.
This session brings together observations from previous, current and future research activities. During this dialogue on research, the participants will reflect on the status of the research field and emerging topics for future endeavours.
