UvA celebrates 381st Dies Natalis

The 381st Dies Natalis (anniversary) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) will take place on Tuesday, 8 January 2013. Prof. A.P. Hardon, professor of Anthropology of Health and Social Care will give the Dies lecture.

In 2013, the UvA will celebrate its 381st anniversary. After the opening speech by Rector Magnificus Dymph van den Boom, the Dies lecture will be held. Honorary doctorates will then be awarded to Mr. A. Kuipers (1958), astronaut of the European Space Agency (ESA) and a member of the Aerospace Medical Association, the Netherlands Association for Aviation Medicine and the Netherlands Space Society, and to Mr. R. N. Tata (1937), chairman of Tata Sons and the Tata Group (until December 2012). He has also served as chairman of various Tata companies including Tata Steel, Tata Motors and Tata Consultancy Services. He is also chairman of the major philanthropic arms of the Tata Group: the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust.

The presentation of the UvA Lecturer of the Year 2012 prize will then take place.

Time and location

The Dies Natalis starts at 15:00 in the Aula of the UvA, Singel 411 (the Aula is open from 14:15). A reception will be held in the hall of the Maagdenhuis after the event.
