29Apr2015 20:00 - 21:30

Lecture

Sir Colin Budd will describe the current debate in the UK about membership of the European Union, including the possibility of a Brexit, and the ways in which the UK would like the EU to change. He will also reflect on the significance in that context of the longstanding connections between the UK and the Netherlands.

Sir Colin Budd was from 2001-5 the UK's Ambassador to the Netherlands. He was a member of the UK Diplomatic Service from 1967-2005, and from 1975-2005 was closely involved in the UK's relationship with the European Community and European Union.   From 1993-95 he was Chef de Cabinet to the Vice President of the European Commission, Sir Leon Brittan, and from 1997-2001 he was Director General for the EU of the UK Foreign Office.

ACCESS EUROPE Scientific Director, Professor Jonathan Zeitlin (UvA) will comment on the lecture. Professor Anton Hemerijck (VU) is moderator.
