Sjoerdje van Heerden explores the demonization of political parties in the Netherlands between 1995 and 2011. After thoroughly conceptualizing the term ‘demonization’, Van Heerden goes on to analyze the effects of demonization on the electoral success of Geert Wilders’ Party for Freedom (PVV). Attention is also given to the extent to which the demonization of political parties influences the general level of trust in the Dutch parliament.
