PhD defence ceremony

Bart Hageraats studied the life and work of the Bulgarian-Swiss author Elias Canetti (1905-1994). His research focus is on topics relating to mass, Verwandlung, Chinese texts and philosophy.

Hageraats analysed the texts on their historical-philosophical and current value and meaning.  He regards  Canetti as source and even more as guiding author.

Verwandlung is the charateristical human ability to relate to other living species. Canetti considers this the essence of human-beings and the creation of Western Culture.  Hageraarts argues that wrongfully Canetti is not considered a philosopher. His work relates to the philosophical streams of phenomenology  en existentialism.
