The Transnationalization of Chinese National Oil Companies and the European Union Energy Security
Special issue Journal 'Perspective on Global Development and Technology' (guest editors and contributors Mehdi P. Amineh and Yang Guang)
This special journal issue brings together 11 individual research papers that analyse three interconnected themes: 1) China’s energy policies, 2) China’s dilemma regarding the expansion of fossil fuel production to meet the energy needs of its massive urbanizing society and 3) the energy security challenges of the European Union and related policies in countries and regions of supply.
Joint research programme
These studies have come out of a joint research program between the Energy Program Asia (EPA) of the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS), Leiden University and the Institute of West Asian and African Studies (IWAAS) of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Beijing, China, in cooperation with the Department of Political Science and the Department of Geography, Planning and International Development Studies of the University of Amsterdam and other partners.
Objectives research programme
The objective of the joint research programme is to analyse China’s increasing involvement with governments, local institutions and local stakeholders in the energy sectors of a number of resource-rich countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America (Sudan, Ghana, Saudi-Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Kazakhstan, Russia, Venezuela, Brazil and EU).
The joint research program is sponsored by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) –Leiden University for the period of 2013-2017.
