As of January 1, 2012, our colleague Marlies Glasius has been appointed on the chair Citizens’ Involvement in War Zones and Post-Conflict Zones at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam. This special chair (bijzondere leerstoel) has been jointly created by the VU and peace movement IKV.

In her new capacity, Marlies will contribute to teaching the Master’s track Law and Politics of International Security at the Vrije Universiteit and supervising PhD students. The chair will allow her additional exposure to her long standing research on (transnational) civil society, conflicts and the international community.

Marlies’ novel position, next to her position as co-director of the Programme Group Transnational Configurations, Conflicts and Governance, will also enable strengthening the research co-operation between the multidisciplinary set of groups at VU, working on international security issues on the one hand, and various groups working on these issues within the AISSR.
