Europe in Crisis – Resilient Europe

On 22 and 23 January 2014, The Amsterdam Centre for Contemporary European StudieS -ACCESS EUROPE will open its doors with the inaugural event ‘Europe in Crisis – Resilient Europe’ in Felix Meritis in Amsterdam.

Official opening

On 22 January from 15.00 the official opening will be staged, with amongst others keynote speakers

  • Loukas Tsoukalis, Professor at the  University of Athens and Director of the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy
  • Frank Vandenbroucke, Den Uyl Professor at the University of Amsterdam
  • Brigid Laffan,  Director and Professor at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute in Florence.

Engaging with the researchers

On 23 January, from 13.00 we will discuss current topics concerning Europe in more depth and offer you the chance to engage with the researchers of ACCESS EUROPE. The full programme will be announced early January.

About ACCESS EUROPE

ACCESS EUROPE is a joint venture between the  University of Amsterdam and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Through interdisciplinary academic research, education and public outreach and debate, ACCESS EUROPE will establish a platform for understanding and discussing the current crisis in Europe and the changing relationship between Europe, the Netherlands, and the world.

The core of ACCESS EUROPE will be formed by researchers from the social and behavioural sciences, law, humanities and economics from both UvA and VU.
