Biographical sketch
Pier Prins studied clinical and developmental psychology at the University of Utrecht. He received his Ph.D at the University of Amsterdam (1984) with a dissertation on Verbal Self-Control and Anxiety in Children . In 1984 he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study in the USA (Arizona State University) and do research on childhood self-regulation. In 1987 he became associate professor in the department of Clinical Psychology at the University of Amsterdam and in 2003 was appointed full professor of Clinical Child Psychology at the same University. He is a licensed clinical child psychologist and a member of the Dutch Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy (VGCT). Pier Prins is on the Editorial Board of Behavior Therapy, Clinical Child and Family Psychology Review, Child & Youth Care Forum, and Games for Health Journal.
Research interests
Research interests concern the development and evaluation of psychosocial interventions for children and youth with internalizing and externalizing problems. In his research efforts, treatment-outcome studies are designed from a developmental perspective and embedded in experimental psychopathology. Pier Prins is involved in treatment-outcome studies with aggressive children and children with ADHD; also, he is involved in a multicenter study on the mechanisms of change in cognitive behavior therapy for children with anxiety disorders. Furthermore, together with the Task Force ADHD & Computer, he has developed a training program with game-elements ( 'Braingame Brian' ) for children with Executive Function problems, such as children with ADHD and ASS. This program is currently being evaluated in several clinical studies.
