What I do
I am PhD student and computer programmer at the ADAPT research group. In the past, I have developed various systems for administering questionnaires and reaction time tasks over the Internet. We are now lifting our systems to a new level in order to do research on an international scale in the context of ALICE RAP. I examine how automatic brain processes related to drugs vary across cultures. In the traditional view, a typical Brit associates alcohol with partying, while a typical Italian associates alcohol with dining. However, this view is being challenged by the drinking patterns of younger generations. By combining measurements of automatic processes with self-report, I hope to gain a better insight into drinking cultures, and perhaps be able to adapt interventions to specific drinking cultures.
