Biographical sketch

In 2010, Marc Heerdink obtained his MSc in Experimental Social Psychology (cum laude) from the University of Amsterdam. Shortly afterwards, he started his PhD project on intragroup emotional influence, working with prof. dr. G. A. Van Kleef, dr. A. C. Homan, and prof. dr. A. H. Fischer (all at the University of Amsterdam). After defending his dissertation (Summer/Fall 2015), he'll continue working as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Amsterdam.

During his studies, he spent time in dr. L. V. Oceja's Grupo NEM Lab at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

Research Interests

Marc's research focuses on the role of emotional influence in group processes. Relevant questions include how emotional expressions are interpreted in a group context, whether (and under which conditions) people will conform to the group norm if others act in emotionally diverse ways towards them, how emotions that are expressed in a group context provide information about, and affect the group hierarchy.

Further research interests are the development of shared reality, the origins and consequences of hierarchy, the role of emotions in shaping the (construal of a) situation, emotional processes in cheating, the development of group norms, and the role of interpersonal emotional processes in a sports context.
