Biographical Sketch

I obtained my Bachelor of Psychology at Cardiff University (2009). During my studies, I had the opportunity to work as a research assistant at the department of Social, and Developmental Psychology, and to visit the University of Amsterdam for a research internship. I later returned to Amsterdam (UvA) to follow the Research Master program, which I completed in 2011 (cum laude). Throughout my studies and for most of the year after, I worked as a research assistant for the department of Social Psychology, and I gained first teaching experience. Before I started my PhD project in October 2012, I was also involved in the coordination of an intervention study aiming to help adolescents stop smoking through administering a combination of CBT and cognitive re-training (collaborative project UvA and Yale School of Medicine).

Current Research

Currently, I am working on my PhD project together with Dr. Nils Jostmann and Prof. Rob Holland. The project, financed by the voedingscentrum , will take a social psychological approach to understanding people's food choices. More specifically, we will investigate how automatic processes determine eating behaviour, and under what circumstances interventions targeting those automatic processes lead to enduring changes in health behaviour.

Interests

For me, the most interesting aspects of human behaviour are the motivational and self-regulatory processes driving and coordinating it. I am particularly intrigued by the effects effort investment can have on engagement, value, motivation and commitment.

Other current work investigates illusory perceptions of control (in collaboration with Prof. Joop van der Pligt), the subjectivity of time perception (in collaboration with Dr. Michael Vliek), and emotions (in collaboration with Prof. Agneta Fischer).
