Upon arrival in Amsterdam
Information for international students

Moving to a different country or city may sometimes seem like a hassle. Student Services will help you through these procedures. This starts with the enrolment process while you are still abroad. During this process, you will be helped with such procedures as your visa / residence permit (if applicable), signing up for the introduction programmes and preparing for your arrival in Amsterdam.
After you have successfully submitted your file for immigration, you will be invited to book a Start Appointment during which we will take care of:
- Your student card
- Your residence permit (not applicable to EU/EEA students)
- Registering with the municipality of Amsterdam (or Diemen), which will provide you with a BSN number (social security number)
- Opening a Dutch bank account (optional)
- Information on the UvA and Amsterdam and, of course, any further questions you may have.
Student Services offers some webinars to watch in preparation of your arrival at the University of Amsterdam. Go to 'Coming to Amsterdam' through the link below to watch the several webinars.
