Tuition fees

The tuition fee for the academic year 2014-2015 is:

  • EU/EEA students €1,906 per year 
  • non-EU/EEA students €12,000 per year

The tuition fees for the 2015-2016 academic year have not yet been determined. New information will be published here as soon as it is available.

Scholarships

Business in Society Scholarship

Scholarships to any applicant in the form of tuition fee waivers will be awarded based on merit. If you wish to compete for this scholarship, you should indicate your interest in this scholarship when applying for the Research Master in Embark. If you correctly and timely indicate that you aim to participate in the competition for a scholarship, your essay on a topic related to business in society, which is part of the application package, is used as submission to that competition, and assessed as such. If you obtain a scholarship, please be aware that an extension of that scholarship in the second year of the programme will be conditional to your performing well in the first year.

VU Fellowship Programme

The VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP) offers talented prospective students the unique opportunity to pursue a degree from a selection of Master’s programmes at VU University. VU University has committed to providing approximately 1 million euro towards attracting highly motivated, excellent students.

On 1 December 2014, students can start applying for the VU Fellowship Programme (VUFP). The deadline for application is set to 1 March 2015.

Amsterdam Merit Scholarship (AMS) 

The University of Amsterdam aims to attract the world’s brightest students to its international classrooms. Outstanding students from outside the European Economic Area can apply for an Amsterdam Merit Scholarship. A limited number of AMS scholarships is available for non-EEA students in the Master's programmes. Last year the top 14 percent of non-EEA MSc students were awarded a €12,000 Amsterdam Merit Scholarship.

The deadline for this scholarship is the same as the application deadline: 1 April 2015.

Other Scholarships

The Dutch Ministry of Education and Sciences offers scholarships covering costs of living expenses within the framework of cultural agreements between the Netherlands and other countries. Information is available from the Dutch embassy or consulate in your country or via Grantfinder and the Nuffic.

You can also contact the Ministry for Higher Education in your own country. There may be funds or foundations available for students planning to study abroad.

Scholarships for Dutch students

Students with a Dutch nationality who have not yet studied for more than six years are eligible for a student grant from the Dutch government. Certain EU/EEA students may also be eligible for a student grant or for limited funding by the Dutch government by means of tuition fee loans.

Study costs 

While in Amsterdam students should expect to spend between €950 and €1,400 per month on living expenses. This does not include tuition fees. These expenses roughly break down as follows:

  • Accommodation: €375 - €600  per month
  • Living expenses: €400 - €500 per month
  • Insurance: €40-€100 per month
  • Books: €50-€100 per month
  • Public transport: €70 - €100 per month maximum (more if you live outside Amsterdam)
