The joint Master's programme is taught by leading academics from both the VU University Amsterdam and the University of Amsterdam. Together, they complement each other's specialisations and knowledge of business studies.
Ans Kolk (University of Amsterdam)
Ans Kolk is full professor at the University of Amsterdam Business School, UvA. Her areas of research, teaching and publications are in corporate social responsibility and sustainability, especially in relation to international business firms and their interaction with stakeholders and society. Specific topics she studies are codes of conduct and non-financial reporting; stakeholders and governance; partnerships; poverty and development; bottom of the pyramid and subsistence markets; climate change and energy. She has published numerous articles in a large range of international journals (including e.g. Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Management Studies, California Management Review, Management International Review, Journal of World Business, World Development, Journal of Business Ethics) as well as book chapters and books. In 2009, Professor Kolk received the prestigious EABIS/Aspen Institute Faculty Pioneer European Award (Lifetime Achievement Award), which recognises exceptional faculty who are leaders in integrating environmental and social issues into their research and teaching both on- and off-campus.
Joep Cornelissen (VU University Amsterdam)
Joep Cornelissen is a full professor and former vice-dean of research at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at the VU University Amsterdam. He previously worked at the University of Leeds, and is also currently a visiting professor at IE Business School in Madrid and the University of Southern Denmark.
Professor Cornelissen's areas of research include entrepreneurship, corporate communication and organizational development and change. He also has a specific interest in management theory and processes of theory development, and is currently teaching courses on theory development and publishing as part of the research master programme. Within these courses he helps students to craft and write strong theory as part of their research, in part by drawing on his experience as an editor for journals such as the Journal of Management Studies and the Academy of Management Review.
