'In the first semester of my Bachelor's in Sociology I already knew beyond a doubt that I wanted to enroll in the Research Master's in Social Sciences. I am curious by nature, and I am intrigued by the amount of knowledge we can acquire about human society and relationships using different research methods. Apart from that, for me research is fascinating because it forms a synthesis of theory, empirics and methodology.
This Master's offers a lot of choice which enables students to develop their own ideas under the supervision of experienced and inspiring scholars. In addition, the programme provides students with a broad range of methodological and thematic courses.
Personally, I chose the specialisation track ‘Institutions, Inequalities and Life Courses’ which includes, among other things, courses on social networks and educational inequality, as well as qualitative, quantitative and mixed courses.
Furthermore, the programme offers the opportunity to do an internship, and I applied for an internship at the methodology department of Statistics Netherlands in order to deepen my methodological knowledge. When it comes to the future, the aim with which I enrolled myself in the Research Master's in Social Sciences was to do a PhD. Now, more than ever before, I know that I want to become a researcher.'
