Arts and Culture: International Dramaturgy
The professional Master's programme International Dramaturgy is open to all
students with:
A university Bachelor's diploma
The admission requirements for the professional Master's in International Dramaturgy follow a strict procedure with a merit-based selection of candidates every academic year. Applicants are eligibile to apply if they have successfully completed their Bachelor's in:
- Theatre Studies or
- another university Bachelor's programme with a minimum of 30 ECTS devoted to Theatre Studies and related subjects.
Pre-Master's programme
Students with a higher professional education (HBO) qualification in the field of Theatre, such as a Drama Teacher or Directing qualification, are eligible for the selection procedure for the International Dramaturgy dual Master's programme. They should preferably take a minor in Theatre Studies (24 ECTS) over the course of their undergraduate degree programme with an applied emphasis, followed by a pre-Master's programme (30 ECTS), consisting of:
- Performance Analysis, including Academic Writing (12 ECTS)
- Philosophy of Science for Theatre Studies (12 ECTS)
- an individual literature exam (6 ECTS) In order to be admitted to the pre-Master's programme, students are expected to have acquired sufficient basic knowledge in the area of theatre theory and history over the course of their undergraduate degree programme.
Selection procedure
Applicants should submit a portfolio with the following documents:
- BA diploma (with an average minimum grade of 7.0 or equivalent)
- Motivation letter
- Curriculum vitae
- Names and contact details of two academic referees
- 1000-word dramaturgical concept for a performance based on a source material which will provided by the selection committee.
- English Language Test
Assignment 2015
Formulate a brief but consistent dramaturgical concept (maximum 1000 words) for one of the three art works (either the drama, the manifesto or the installation). Approach the art work of your choice as a source for a dramaturgical concept that envisions staging. Add a bibliography of secondary material you used.

Based on successful submission of this dossier, the selection committee will select candidates for an interview. Applicants from abroad will be interviewed via Skype.

The registration for the admission procedure closes 1 April of each year.
