Professors
Acccountancy and Control
Dr. ir. Sander van Triest
Dr. ir. Sander van Triest started working at the Universiteit van Amsterdam Business School in November 2005. He is assistant professor management accounting. Previously, he held the same position at the University of Twente. Having a background in industrial engineering and management, he has gradually drifted towards the management accounting field. This has led to viewing management accounting as quantifying organizational activities, and using these numbers in managing people and activities.
His research projects are carried out in various settings, with the application of management accounting techniques as their common part. Topics include customer profitability analysis (using cost price information to value customer relationships, and evaluate the return on marketing decisions), goodwill impairment testing (valuation procedures for the impairment test, the friction between standards requirements and practical implementation), and patent valuation (implementing valuation procedures for patents). His research has been published in international and Dutch academic journals, as well as in the practice-oriented literature (e.g. Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business and Industrial Marketing, Maandblad voor Accountancy & Bedrijfseconomie, Accounting, Handboek Accountancy, Holland Management Review).
