Jordi van den Berg, Business Administration: EMCI

Jordi van den Berg

‘Let me first introduce myself: My name is Jordi van den Berg, 23 years old and I graduated in the Entrepreneurship and Management in the Creative Industries track of the Master’s in Business Administration. By following this track, I combined two passions in my life: entrepreneurship and film. I am currently building my own film production company called Countershade Productions, a dream I’ve had for years.

At the Amsterdam Business School, I discovered that the EMCI programme was partly related to that dream. It was the perfect moment to finally make it come true. After getting my degree, I decided to follow my passion and completely focus on my own business. I’m doing this in combination with an apprenticeship with an experienced filmmaker. Together we work on his business model and projects and in return I get experience and knowledge of the industry.

The EMCI track provides you with a good overall view of business. You compare business theories in the creative industries to regular industries and link them to different subjects, like strategy or marketing. It's possible to relate your assignments and Master's thesis to the subjects that interest you most. Another opportunity I took was to go on exchange to Bocconi University in Milan. We got the chance to follow our electives and to write our Master’s thesis there. I recommend going on an exchange like that, it definitely broadened my horizons.’
