'The courses have a good balance between theoretical framework and practical implementation.'
Bas Koolstra - student Econometrics
'My main reasons for choosing the University of Amsterdam were the diversity of the curriculum and of course the experience of studying in an international city like Amsterdam. As I was happy with my experiences during the Bachelor's programme, it was an obvious choice to continue with my Master's at the UvA. I chose the Financial Econometrics track, because finance and econometrics are an excellent combination and the courses have a good balance between theoretical framework and practical implementation. The relations between students and lecturers are good, making it easy to work together and ask the critical questions that are needed to make the most out of the programme.
I don't regret my choice to come to the Amsterdam School of Economics to study Econometrics. I feel at home, learn a lot and enjoy life as a student. I spent a semester abroad at McMaster University in Canada, I currently work at an actuarial and consulting firm and I spent a year as chairman of study association VSAE (study association for Econometrics and Actuarial Science). I feel that all those extracurricular activities contributed to my personal development and have improved my chances in the labour market. The most likely option for me is to find a job at a consultancy firm, insurer or bank. I hope to find a job where I can apply and enjoy the skills that I learned in terms of critical thinking and an efficient approach to quantitative problems.’
