The academic director

Prof. Dr. Martijn W. Hesselink is a Professor of European Private Law, the Director of the Centre for the Study of European Contract Law, and the academic director of the LLM in European Private Law.

 Research

 Hesselink has been a member of several international research groups including the Study Group on a European Civil Code and the Social Justice Group. He has written several reports and briefing notes on matters of contract and consumer law at the request of the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament and served as a member of the European Commission's expert group that drafted the Common European Sales Law proposal.

 

Teaching 

He taught, as a visiting professor, at universities in Paris (Université René Descartes, Panthéon-Sorbonne and Sciences Po), Rome (Roma Tre), and Lisbon (Católica Global School of Law). He has published extensively, in leading international journals, on a variety of subjects in the fields of European private law and private law theory. In our programme, Hesselink teaches the mandatory courses in European Private Law and European Contract Law, and the elective course in Private Law Theory.
