Yorike Hartman PhD, Programme Assistant Forensic Science
I’m the assistent of the programme director of the master Forensic Science. Together with the director and study advisor, I’m part of a small team that makes sure the master runs smoothly.
Next to administrative tasks, I’m involved in the organization of excursions, the introduction day, lectures of Frontiers of Forensic Science and I’m one of the contacts for students. I have a background in biology and sustainable development which I studied at the University of Amsterdam and where I also finished my PhD in biology. What I find very appealing in the master Forensic Science is the interdisciplinary character of the study. Students learn about what it takes to be a forensic scientist through courses in the first year of the master, but they return to their own background when they perform their research project. They have to learn how to work together with people with varied backgrounds and nationalities. All in all the master Forensic Science is an intensive and varied study, where a successful result is also dependent on the enthusiasm and the personal input of the students themselves.
