Business Information Systems (MSc)

Name: Bas Reus

Current position: Senior Developer at Favela Fabric in Amsterdam

‘I'm employed by Trilab, which is Favela Fabric's technical partner. My responsibility is to develop an Internet platform to be used for co-creation and innovation. I work with all the parties who have - or will have - a stake in this platform. I have to communicate with all of those parties to work out how to develop and shape the platform.'

‘It's also important to keep an eye on developing trends so we know what's going on in our field. For example, I'm currently studying for my Microsoft.NET exams. Taking training courses was something I initiated last year, and it's now been rolled out to other developers too. It helps keep up the level of knowledge within the organisation.'

‘When I was doing the Master's degree in Information Studies (in the Business Information Studies track), one thing I really enjoyed was being part of a motivated group of students. The thesis was definitely a highlight for me, but I enjoyed the 10-point subjects too. Those subjects often went into great depth, which was a good preparation for the thesis.'

‘I made a lot of new contacts by doing the Master's degree. As well as meeting fellow students and lecturers, I also made business contacts, at the P2P Foundation, for instance. I even got a job out of it, after my thesis secured an invitation to an interview. Six months later I moved on into my current role, where I can really apply the knowledge and thought processes I've acquired.'
