'Why on earth would a 37-year-old go back to university and sit in a lecture hall? I must confess I asked myself that question from time to time, especially when there was another deadline looming. The answer is: 'Because the study programme fascinates me'. Unlike most students, I already have a full-time job and a family. That's why I decided to complete the study programme on a part-time basis.'

'I started my career working in libraries, but I spent the past 15 years in various positions in the ICT sector. I currently work for the Amsterdam University Press (AUP). I also completed the University of Amsterdam's Information (Library) Science study programme on a part-time basis. The study programme offers me a theoretical framework for the experience I've gained during my career. I've also learnt a lot about e-commerce, social software and the way in which organisations apply knowledge. The curriculum gives you a broad understanding of the effects of information technology.'

'I haven't had any problems combining the study with my work. I conducted a study for my own company with some of my fellow students, and for my Master's thesis I'll be researching the effects of releasing the copyrights on electronic books published by AUP.'
