Redmar Dansma

Master's student in European Union Law

'I consider it an advantage that the entire programme is offered in English.'

Redmar Dansma went to school at the Montessori Lyceum Amsterdam. ‘The University of Amsterdam is highly regarded there and the UvA atmosphere fits well with Montessori. That's why I opted for a law degree at the UvA. I enjoy taking classes here, there's a good mix of lectures and small-scale tutorials. Also, it's very easy for students to approach members of the staff.’

‘During my bachelor's I became interested in European law. The UvA has an excellent master's programme in European Union Law with a wide assortment of courses, so I didn't really need to look at other universities when the time came to choose a programme. I consider it an advantage that the entire programme is offered in English. It's fun to have many foreign students in your group: About a quarter of the participants are Dutch, the others come from places such as Eastern Europe, South America, Central America and of course from the countries close to The Netherlands.’

‘During the programme, you can choose from a wide variety of courses. I picked European Environmental Law and Law of the Internal Market, among others. But they all looked interesting to me, so really I could have picked any of them.’

‘I am currently thinking about what to do after I graduate. I think I'd like to be a lawyer, so I'll start with an internship at a law firm. I'm also interested in Dutch national law, so I'm trying to find a field that is a mixture of European and national law, such as competition law.’
