student Logic

I chose the MSc in Logic…

as it is one of the few programmes worldwide that offers a Master’s degree. Moreover, it is at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation, one of the most prestigious in the field. It gives me the opportunity to learn from outstanding researchers and experts. And apart from this: Amsterdam is great!

To me the most appealing topics…

were the ones originating from the interaction between logic and philosophy, or logic and computer sciences and cognitive science; as for example artificial intelligence and philosophical logic. In my final project, I am going to analyze neural-symbolic integration. I will try to combine methods from symbolic reasoning (i.e. logic based methods) with techniques from the rub-symbolic domain (e.g. neural nets , support vector machines, etc). The aim is to combine the advantages of both approaches to knowledge representation and reasoning. After finishing the Master, I will hopefully continue my research in a PhD position.

Studying here…

is studying in a very international environment where you cooperate with students from places all over the world. The UvA and the institute offered me a well-equipped and vivid department and study environment. With the new faculty at Science Park, the university provides an inspiring study environment offering modern facilities. That makes studying here a really pleasant experience.

Finding a room in Amsterdam…

at the beginning may be hard, but the university helps with a place to stay for the first year. That gives you the time to get to know people, continue your search and in the end if you’re lucky even get to share an apartment in one of the best neighbourhoods in Amsterdam, the Jordaan, as I.
