Patrick Brown

Patrick Brown

Patrick Brown is the Track Coordinator of Social Problems and Social Policy.

Patrick has a number of research interests in and around medical sociology and health policy - primarily risk, uncertainty and trust. His doctoral research led into further investigation into the ways in which healthcare professionals act towards/within the 'audit society' and reasons for compliance with, or subversion of, the system. The application of social theory has proved a valuable tool in analysing these phenomena - especially that of Habermas, Luhmann and Schutz.

He is also interested in mental health, particularly the construction of risk around mental illness and its impact on policy and professionals, but also in the perceptions held by those experiencing mental illness of healthcare institutions and the impact of this on trust and care outcomes.
