Organic chemistry, biochemistry, and organometallic chemistry are the foundation for a fundamental understanding of the relationship between molecular structure and performance. Together with materials science and catalysis, this field supplies society with the molecules and materials we need for our health, transportation, energy, agriculture and communication. Understanding how molecules function is one of the most important worldwide challenges in chemistry.
Is Molecular Design, Synthesis and Catalysis at the UvA the study for me?
It is, if you:
- have a solid background in chemistry
- are eager to expand your knowledge and skills in the area of (bio-)organ(ometall)ic chemistry and new materials.
- want to move from understanding chemical and physical processes, to predicting and designing them.
- want the advantages of a small-scale programme, where students and staff all know each other.
What does Molecular Design, Synthesis and Catalysis at the UvA have to offer me?
This Master's track focuses purely on (bio-)organ(ometall)ic chemistry - a specialisation for which there is currently a great demand on the labour market. It lets you acquire hands-on experience in:
- designing new (bio-active) compounds and materials by combining experimental and computational methods
- devising efficient methods for the synthesis of new compounds
- developing homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts that enable clean and selective industrial processes.
