Transcending boundaries

The Master’s programme Archaeology: Landscape and Heritage is not fixed to geographical or chronological boundaries, but deals thematically with archaeological landscapes and archaeological heritage in many different societies. Within the programme students can opt for the specialisation Landscape Archaeology or Archaeological Heritage. In both specialisations students will acquire conceptual knowledge of landscapes and archaeological remains in their modern setting, with a focus on heritage management and policy.

ACASA: Archaeology in Amsterdam

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) and VU University Amsterdam (VU) offer a joint Master’s in Archaeology via the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA). This pooling of resources means you will have the choice between various course packages, as well as the opportunity to specifically prepare yourself for a professional career, be it in commercial archaeology, archaeology policy or academic research. You will attend lectures at both the UvA and the VU.

‘All the archaeological fieldwork within ACASA is conducted in close cooperation with local archaeological services. For example, our project on Zakynthos in Greece includes excavations, field surveys, remote sensing and interviews with local inhabitants. Just as the other projects, it is a perfect training ground for students of different levels and interest.’

Degree certificate

Landscape and Heritage is an accredited degree programme of Archaeology. After successful completion of this programme, you will receive a legally accredited Master’s degree in Archaeology and the title Master of Arts (MA).
