Loans for American students
The University of Amsterdam is participating in the new William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program. If you are or will be a UvA tuition fee paying student with the American nationality, you may apply for a Stafford and/or Grad/Parent PLUS loans.

Unfortunately, we do not receive any automatic messages from the United States telling us that you have applied for one of the loans. In order for us to know that you would like to take out a loan, you will have to contact us yourself after you have filed your Student Aid Report with FAFSA. Only then can we start your loan origination process on this side.
Deadlines
To guarantee that you will receive the loan funds on time please make sure that you provide us with all your information and documents by the following deadlines:
- Starting in September 2013? The deadline is 15 July 2013.
- Starting in February 2014? The deadline is 15 December 2013.
Very important
It is very important that you understand that you will have to pay back your loans, what your choices are and what will happen if you do not pay them back on time. We would therefore strongly suggest that you read the attachment ‘Guide Default Prevention & Management Plan’, so that you are aware of the obligations you have when you have taken out loans.
