Application and admission
Amsterdam Law School exchange programme
Admission requirements
Student profile
The following students may enrol as exchange students:
- Erasmus/U21 students enrolled at a university with which the ALS has concluded a formal (bilateral) exchange agreement;
- Students from partner universities with which the ALS or the University of Amsterdam have concluded a bilateral agreement;
- Other third and fourth year (academic) law students, provided they meet all requirements.
Academic level
Applicants should have completed at least two years of law school. This means that for students who study a double degree, only their years of legal studies will be taken into consideration.
Prerequisites courses in European and International Law
Students who wish to participate in a course in the field of European or International Law are required to have completed an introduction course in that field of law at their home university.
For students who have not yet completed such a course, the ALS offers two introduction courses: Introduction to European Union Law and Introduction to International Law.
Please note:
- The introduction courses are compulsory for all students that want to participate in a course in the field of European Law and/or International Law respectively, and that have not already completed such a course at their home university.
- Since the introduction course in International law is only offered in the first semester, students in the second semester must make sure they have already completed such a course at their home university. Otherwise, participation in the desired courses might not be possible!
English language requirements
All classes in the Amsterdam EXchange programme of the Amsterdam Law School are conducted in English and proficiency in the English language is, therefore, required. Applicants from non-English speaking countries must present proof of proficiency by providing a copy of their:
- TOEFL score (minimum score of 600-630, paperbased; 250, computer based; 100 internetbased); or
- IELTS score (minimum overall average score 6,5 and a minimum score of 6 on each part of the test); or
