Internationalisation

Half of all the Master's programmes at the UvA are taught in English. A large number of Master’s students are from other countries, and their number is growing annually.  Almost 50% of the UvA’s PhD students now come from abroad. The UvA is currently home to students from over 100 different nationalities. In addition, almost 20% of our academic staff hail from other countries. International cooperation has also been expanded. Across the breadth of the institution, the UvA is engaged in approximately 50 alliances with other European and non-European universities; faculty and institute staff are engaged in a far greater network of alliances.

The Strategic Framework for Internationalisation policy document outlines the UvA’s objectives for the coming years:

  • to achieve a substantial qualitative and quantitative increase in the intake of international Master's students;
  • to provide each student with the best possible preparation for a career in the global job market;
  • to strengthen the UvA’s profile in the international research domain;
  • to strengthen the UvA’s international identity.
