E.K. (Ellen) van Bork was trained as a gold- and silversmith in Schoonhoven, the Netherlands, graduating in 2004. After one year of Museum Studies at the Reinwardt Academy, she specialized in metal conservation at the Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE) in Amsterdam, from which she graduated in 2009. After graduating, she worked as a metal conservator for the British Museum in London, largely on archaeological objects. She subsequently started as a Junior Conservator at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, coordinating the restoration of ca. 2500 metal based objects going on display for the reopening of the Rijksmuseum in 2013.  This project also included the conservation treatments of mostly historical objects, e.g. the jewellery and silver collection. She is currently a lecturer and coordinator for the Master and Post Graduate programme of the Metal Conservation and Restoration course at the University of Amsterdam and a metal conservator at the Rijksmuseum. Her main focus is on (gilded) silver and the manufacturing techniques and the associated deterioration processes such as cracking phenomena in 17th century Dutch Silver. She also runs a metal conservation studio (van Bork Metal Conservation) where she carries out conservation and consultancy projects for museums, art dealers, and art collectors.
