Starting in January 2019, Karin Fikkers will be working at Utrecht University.

Until the end of 2018, Karin Fikkers was a postdoctoral researcher at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research ( ASCoR) and the Center for research on Children, Adolescents, and the Media ( CcaM). She was a member of the Consortium of Individual Development, a consortium of seven Dutch universities that is interested in the question why some children thrive and others don't (www.individualdevelopment.nl). In this project, Karin worked towards a better and more nuanced understanding of the role of media entertainment in children's lives.

Karin obtained her Bachelor’s degree at the Business Communication department of the Radboud University Nijmegen (2007), after which she graduated cum laude from the research master Language and Communication (Radboud University, University of Tilburg, 2010). From 2011 to 2015, she conducted her PhD research at CcaM, in which she investigated the effects of media violence on aggression, specifically asking which adolescents are (most) susceptible. In February 2016, she obtained her PhD title cum laude after defending her dissertation titled “A different(ial) perspective: How social context influences the media violence-aggression relationship among early adolescents”.
