The northern question: how Balkan societies shaped the collapse of the Bronze Age
Lecture by dr. Barry Molloy (University College Dublin, School of Archaeology)
Explanations for the collapse of economic and political infrastructures of the Aegean Bronze Age have for a long time debated the relative contribution of societiesform the Balkans, Central Europe and Italy. Over recent decades, a dearth of cross-border regional scale studies of societal developmentsin the Balkans have limited our ability ot test how changes in contemporary societies of this broad region may have related to each other.
This paper explores how new social traditions of the Balkans may have related to transformations in the Aegean Bronze Age as the Mycenaen paletial collapse unfolded.
