The Entrepreneurship and Management in the Creative Industries (EMCI) track is designed for two groups: those who are interested in the creative industries because they want to be involved in those industries themselves; and those who want to be prepared to deal with challenges in any industry where creativity and innovation play a central role.

One Master's programme, seven tracks

About EMCI

During the programme you will read, discuss and critically reflect on the most important business theories relating to the creative industries and apply them to specific cases. These range from theatres, museums and orchestras to television production companies, music labels and computer game developers, including small startups to large firms, such as Walt Disney, Endemol and Nintendo. 


The Entrepreneurship and Management in the Creative Industries curriculum covers subject areas such as Branding, Managing Creativity, Social Media Marketing, Strategy Consulting, Branding for Start-ups, Mergers and Acquisitions, Change Management, Business Negotiations and Sustainable Business Models.

Examples from the classroom

How are feature films financed and marketed? Based on input from guest speaker presentations and lectures, you may be asked to examine and analyse the ins and outs of the business of film production, marketing and distribution. To what extent is the film industry affected by product life cycles in the creative industries? How can a film’s life cycle be extended and what factors should be taken into consideration when formulating a release strategy?
