The Amsterdam Business School (ABS) has been accredited by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) in recognition of the excellent quality of its education.

The Accountancy & Control Master’s programme at ABS has therefore been included in the IMA’s Higher Education Endorsement Program. This means that students enrolled in this Master’s programme will also be prepared for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exams.

Head start in the job market

To become CMA certified, candidates have to pass two exams that test them on their capacities in areas like financial planning, analysis, control and decision support. As the exams are globally standardised and the certificate is internationally recognized, the CMA is also known as the ‘passport for finance professionals.’ UvA students who aim to work in an international setting, in the Netherlands or abroad, thus have a head start in the job market.

“We are proud of IMA’s endorsement,“ says Prof. Frank Verbeeten, professor of Accounting at the Amsterdam Business School and IMA Honorary Professor of Management Accounting. “Technological developments like automation, artificial intelligence (AI) and Blockchain have a big impact on the work of finance professionals. It is our shared ambition to prepare students for this and to give them the opportunity to excel in the future as well.”

Link between theory and practice

Alain Mulder, Regional Director IMA Europe, adds, “The exchange between theory and practice is extremely important for the further development of the profession. We are therefore delighted to expand our collaboration with the Amsterdam Business School and Professor Verbeeten. Students who want to work as management accountants will be well-equipped to sit for the CMA exams after the completion of their Master’s studies.”

The accreditation not only endorses the fact that the Accountancy & Control programme is an excellent preparation for the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) exams. Students enrolled in the Master’s program also benefit from the discounted exam fee that IMA offers to students from an endorsed programme. They also have access to additional teaching material for the CMA exams and can take part in IMA Global Board activities.
