Religious Diversity in Europe (Theology and Religious Studies)
Europe’s cultural history is characterised by religious exchange, adaptations and conflict within a global context. In this Master's programme you will explore past and present religious diversities within and beyond their European contexts.
The cultural history of religious diversity
In the Master’s in Religious Diversity in Europe, you will study the religious field from a historical as well as a social scientific perspective. Taking the present day situation as a point of departure, you will reflect on religion’s multiple entanglements in history, culture, society and the individual. As such, the programme offers exciting opportunities to students who enjoy studying religious texts, traditions and practices, and theoretical issues related to religious diversity in Europe.
A tailor-made programme in a historical centre
The Master's in Religious Diversity in Europe offers you the unique opportunity to tailor the programme to your own interests. In addition to core courses focussing on key debates in contemporary religious studies, students can choose a broad range of electives from related Master’s programmes such as Western Esotericism, Islam in the Modern World or Identity and Integration (European Studies).
Courses are taught in Amsterdam's historic city centre, an area that boasts the presence of numerous museums, for instance the Jewish Historical Museum, and important libraries, such as the Ritman library, and is perfectly suited to the study of religion.
Religious Diversity in Europe is an accredited degree programme of Theology and Religious Studies. After successful completion of this programme, you will receive a legally accredited Master’s degree in Theology and Religious Studies and the title Master of Arts (MA).
